I hate doing threshold sessions indoors. I dread them. As a matter of fact, I’d prefer to be out on the road in below freezing weather with a 30mph headwind doing them than in my basement with two big fans blowing on me. Plus, for whatever reason, I’ve never been able to hit the same numbers on the trainer as I do on the road. So instead of my regular 20-min LT efforts, I was given this alternate workout for trainer sessions. I like it much better.

Makes sense. I’ve got about a 5-minute attention span for intervals on the trainer, so 5x3s is much better than a 1×20. I did over unders yesterday, that you might also like. 3×9, with each 9-minute interval broken into 3 minute blocks: 2 min at just Under the power you’d ride at for a 20-minute TT, followed by 1 minute just Over that level (which is about your VO2 Max). So it’s really a 9-minute TT, with a 1-minute VO2 max jump every 3 minutes. Nothing like “recovering” at TT pace.
